Sometimes you want to share a moment with everyone around you. Other times, you want to keep it among your own people.
Spime lets you lock a Spime, restricting access to people you choose. It's ideal for weddings, family gatherings, private events and any other experience where you want to control who can see and participate.
The moment can be shared without making it public.
Why Lock a Spime?
A locked Spime adds an access requirement before someone can enter and view its content.
People nearby may still be able to see that the Spime exists, depending on its other visibility settings, but they won't be able to enter simply because they're within its physical radius.
Instead, they need to be given access.
This lets you enjoy the location-based experience that makes Spime unique while keeping the content itself among the people you've chosen.
How to Lock Your Spime
You can lock a Spime when you first create it or later by editing its settings.
During creation—or from the settings of an existing Spime—enable the Privacy option.
Once enabled, your Spime becomes locked and access is restricted.
You can then give your guests access using an Access Password or QR Code.
Locking controls who can enter. Your other privacy settings control who can discover the Spime and what information they can see.
That distinction is worth making because locking a Spime is only one part of Spime's broader privacy controls.
How to Access a Locked Spime
When a Spime is locked, people who don't yet have access see only its name and a lock icon.
Tap the lock icon to open the access screen.
There are two ways to gain access:
Enter the Access Password
Enter the Spime's Access Password provided by its owner.
Once accepted, you'll have access to the Spime from your device.
Scan the QR Code
Instead of entering a password, simply scan the Spime's QR Code from the owner's device.
This is particularly convenient at private events. Guests can scan the code as they arrive and immediately gain access without having to type or share a password.
Scan the QR Code or enter the Access Password—and you're in.
Let Other Authorized Users Grant Access
The Spime owner doesn't necessarily have to be the only person helping guests gain access.
If the owner enables Reveal Code to Users with Access, nearby users who already have access to the Spime can also display its QR Code.
To display it, the owner or an authorized user can:
- Enter the protected Spime.
- Open the Spime Details screen.
- Tap the Spime thumbnail in the top-left corner.
- Display the QR Code for another person to scan.
This can be especially useful at larger private events such as weddings. Instead of every guest having to find the person who created the Spime, people who already have access can help others join.
Locking and Visibility Work Together
It's important to distinguish between access and visibility.
Locking a Spime controls who can enter it.
Spime's other privacy controls determine things such as who can discover it and whether its location is visible.
For example, you might create a locked Spime that people nearby can discover but cannot enter without authorization.
Or you can combine locking with Hide From the World to make a private Spime that isn't broadly discoverable in the first place.
This gives you much more flexibility than a simple Public/Private switch.
Choose who can find it. Choose who can enter it. Choose how much they can see.

- Weddings and receptions — let guests contribute while keeping the experience among invited people.
- Family gatherings — create one shared place for everyone's photos and videos.
- Private parties — give access only to the people attending.
- Group trips and outings — keep the shared experience within your group.
- Personal events — share with the people who matter without opening the Spime to everyone.
And because access can be granted by QR Code, getting everyone connected can be as simple as placing a QR Code at the event for guests to scan.
