Over the past few months we’ve made several impactful updates to enhance user experience, security, and discoverability. Here is a summary list:
Real-Time Private Messaging
Spime now supports private messaging between two users who are both present in a Spime while it is active.
This maintains contextual relevance and limits server usage to real-time, on-location interactions.
Enhanced Privacy Controls
As Spimes are now globally visible, we've added granular visibility options to give users more control:
- Hide an entire Spime from global view (still visible to people nearby). Users can add exceptions by inviting specific users anywhere.
- Hide only the Spime’s location (content remains visible).
- Hide selected photos within a visible Spime.
- Hide the location of selected photos in a Spime whose location is otherwise shown.
These options maintain authenticity for those nearby while respecting user privacy preferences.
Expanded “Follow” Functionality
- Users can now follow any Spime, regardless of their physical location.
Following allows them to:- Easily revisit it later
- Automatically archive it when it expires
- Users can also now follow other users to:
- Quickly find their active Spimes
- Receive push notifications when those users create new Spimes
World Map & Discoverability
- A new global map view lets users explore Spimes worldwide by category.
- Users can also add Map Markers for added context and navigation.

Local History View
In addition to seeing active Spimes around them, users can now view past Spimes at their current location.
This answers the question: “What happened here before?” and brings a unique historical dimension to Spime.
